Back to school in Oman: Public Prosecution highlights student rights for a safe learning environment

As the new academic year begins in Oman, the Public Prosecution has highlighted key rights guaranteed to students under Article 44 of the School Education Law.

MUSCAT: The Public Prosecution said students have the right to learn in a safe and engaging school environment, while receiving the education, resources, healthcare, transportation and opportunities for participation provided for under the law and relevant regulations.

Under Article 44, students have the right to:

1. Learn in a safe and engaging school environment.  

2. Acquire the knowledge, skills, and competencies specified for each educational stage.

3. Benefit from the diverse activities, programmes, and learning resources available at the school.

4. Receive appropriate healthcare.

5. Receive safe school transportation from their residence to the school and back.

6. Participate in the formation of student councils to discuss issues and topics of interest to them, and communicate with their schools through approved channels.

The communication channels available to students include suggestion boxes, email, educational platforms, direct dialogue, school radio and surveys, among other mechanisms established under the applicable regulations.
