MUSCAT : According to the 2025 statistics issued by the ministry, Oman recorded total shrimp production of 6,321.46 tonnes. Aquaculture accounted for the largest share, producing 5,367.50 tonnes, while traditional fishing contributed 953.96 tonnes.

The total value of shrimp production in 2025 reached RO 14.15 million. Aquaculture generated RO 12.40 million of that value, compared with RO 1.75 million from traditional fishing.

The 2026 shrimp fishing season will run for three months, from September 1 through November 30, after which the applicable restrictions on fishing and related shrimp activities will take effect.

The seasonal measures are aimed at regulating shrimp fishing and protecting the country’s marine resources. During the closed period, fishing, possession and trading of shrimp outside the permitted season are prohibited, along with buying and selling, transporting, storing, exporting and freezing shrimp.

The use of unauthorised fishing equipment is also prohibited, including trawl nets and fishing gear with specified prohibited mesh sizes.
