BAGHDAD : Firefighters brought the blaze under control after an operation lasting more than four hours, according to Sulaymaniyah Civil Defense officials. The fire destroyed dozens of fuel tankers and caused extensive damage at the site.

Local reports said 38 tankers were burned, including 34 carrying gasoline and four transporting gas oil. More than three million litres of gasoline were consumed in the blaze.

Most of those injured were treated at the scene, while more serious cases were transferred to hospitals for further treatment. Officials said Civil Defense personnel were among those hurt during the firefighting operation.

Despite the scale of the blaze, firefighters managed to prevent the flames from spreading to neighbouring warehouses, averting potentially greater losses.

Authorities have launched an investigation to determine the cause of the fire and assess the full extent of the damage.

The Tanjaro facility is considered one of Sulaymaniyah’s key fuel supply sites, raising concerns over possible disruption to fuel transportation and distribution in the governorate.
