MUSCAT: The embassy said it had recently observed a growing number of Egyptian citizens being defrauded by individuals and tourism companies exploiting their desire to travel to Oman for work. Victims have reportedly paid substantial sums before discovering that the promised employment opportunities were not genuine.

The embassy also drew attention to recent Omani regulations concerning tourist visas, noting that tourist visas can no longer be converted into work visas while the holder remains in Oman. Those seeking employment must leave the Sultanate and return under a legally issued work contract in accordance with the applicable procedures.

Egyptian travellers were also warned about penalties for overstaying tourist visas. The embassy said fines may be imposed for each day of violation after the authorised stay expires, with the penalty potentially reaching RO 500.

The embassy urged Egyptian citizens travelling to Oman to exercise caution and verify all travel, visa and employment arrangements through official channels before making any payments.

Travellers were advised to have a confirmed round-trip air ticket, a hotel reservation and sufficient funds to cover their expenses for the duration of their stay until their scheduled departure.

Citizens were urged not to pay individuals or unverified entities in exchange for promises of employment, residency arrangements or assistance with changing their immigration status.
