MUSCAT : According to the Environment Authority (EA), the Rüppell’s weaver bird (Ploceus galbula) is a small bird measuring about 14.5 centimetres in length and is easily associated with its elaborate woven nests suspended from tree branches.

The species typically builds its nests in acacia and tamarisk trees, as well as in gardens, using its weaving skills to create the characteristic hanging structures.

The bird feeds mainly on seeds and grains, along with small insects, and is found in Dhofar throughout the year as a resident species.

The Environment Authority highlighted the bird as one of the distinctive species visitors may encounter while exploring Dhofar during the Khareef season, when the governorate attracts large numbers of visitors with its green landscapes and cooler weather.
