TEHRAN : Naqvi travelled to the Iranian capital for discussions focusing on bilateral relations and issues of mutual interest, according to Iranian media. Iran’s official IRNA news agency later published photographs of the meeting between Naqvi and Araghchi.

Pakistani and Iranian authorities have so far released few details on the discussions.

The visit comes amid continued diplomatic activity by Pakistan, which, alongside regional countries including Qatar, has sought to mediate between Washington and Tehran as efforts continue to find a negotiated path out of the conflict. Pakistan has emerged as an important intermediary in previous rounds of talks between the two sides.

Naqvi’s visit also follows Iranian Interior Minister Eskandar Momeni’s trip to Islamabad last month, during which officials from the two countries discussed regional developments and ways to strengthen bilateral cooperation. Iranian media reported that the discussions included trade, border security and other areas of cooperation.

One of the major issues complicating efforts to resolve the conflict remains the Strait of Hormuz, the strategically important waterway connecting the Gulf to global energy markets. Disruption to shipping through the strait has become a key point of contention in negotiations between Tehran and Washington.

The conflict began after US and Israeli strikes on Iran on February 28, triggering Iranian retaliatory attacks and a wider regional confrontation. Subsequent negotiations have repeatedly sought to establish a durable ceasefire, but disagreements over regional security, sanctions and the Strait of Hormuz have continued to hamper progress.
