MUSCAT : Preliminary data issued by the National Centre for Statistics and Information showed that Muscat Governorate recorded the highest growth in total electricity production, rising by 170.2 percent, followed by Al Dakhiliyah Governorate with 39.5 percent, Dhofar Governorate with 8.5 percent, Al Wusta Governorate with 7.9 percent, and North Al Batinah, South Al Batinah and Al Dhahirah Governorates with 6.2 percent.

In contrast, total electricity production in the North and South Sharqiyah governorates declined by 12.1 percent, while production in Musandam Governorate decreased by 1.7 percent.

Regarding net electricity production, which includes purchases by the Oman Power and Water Procurement Company and the Rural Areas Electricity Company by region, the data showed an increase of 5.9 percent between January and June 2026, reaching 25,343.8 GWh, compared to 23,930.8 GWh during the corresponding period in 2025.

Muscat Governorate recorded the highest growth rate in net electricity production at 169.8 percent, followed by Al Dakhiliyah Governorate at 39.7 percent, Dhofar Governorate at 9.7 percent, Al Wusta Governorate at 8.7 percent, and North Al Batinah, South Al Batinah and Al Dhahirah Governorates at 6.4 percent.

Meanwhile, net electricity production in the North and South Sharqiyah governorates fell by 12.3 percent, while Musandam Governorate recorded a decline of 1.7 percent.

Water production declines by 3 percent

Total water production in Oman decreased by 3 percent during the first half of 2026, reaching 244.49 million cubic metres, compared to 252.02 million cubic metres during the same period in 2025.

Water production in Muscat Governorate declined by 6.1 percent, falling from 100.71 million cubic metres in the first half of 2025 to 94.59 million cubic metres during the same period of 2026.

Production in other governorates decreased by 2.3 percent, reaching 111.18 million cubic metres, compared to 113.79 million cubic metres during the same period last year.

In contrast, water production in Dhofar Governorate increased by 3.2 percent to reach 38.72 million cubic metres during the January-June 2026 period, compared to 37.52 million cubic metres in the first half of 2025.
