GLASGOW – India’s Mirabai Chanu won the country’s first gold medal at the 2026 Commonwealth Games after dominating the women’s 48kg weightlifting event in Glasgow on Sunday.
The Olympic silver medallist produced a Commonwealth Games record lift to secure her third consecutive CWG gold, extending her dominance in the event and giving India its first top-podium finish of the Games.
Chanu’s victory also continued her remarkable run at the Commonwealth Games, having previously won gold at Gold Coast 2018 and Birmingham 2022
