NEW DELHI – India’s Anahat Singh became the first player from the country to win the World Junior Squash Championship after defeating Egypt’s Ruqayya Salem in straight games in the women’s singles final in Ontario, Canada.
The 18-year-old top seed secured a commanding 11-3, 11-7, 11-9 victory over the second-seeded Egyptian to claim the biggest title of her young career and end Egypt’s long-standing dominance in the tournament.
Singh’s triumph marks a watershed moment for Indian squash, making her the first Indian to lift the junior world title. She had reached the semifinals and quarterfinals in previous editions before breaking through on her fifth attempt.
