MUSCAT : The ministry announced the adoption of Omani Standard OS 1660 for Essential Oil of Omani Frankincense and Omani Standard OS 1661 for Cosmetics – Distilled Omani Frankincense Water, describing the initiative as a step towards supporting investment opportunities and reinforcing the product’s position in local and international markets.
According to the ministry, the new standards seek to harmonise technical requirements, ensure consistent product quality, strengthen consumer and market confidence, and improve the competitiveness of Omani frankincense-based products.
The OS 1660 standard for essential oil of Omani frankincense establishes specifications covering physical and chemical characteristics, verification of chemical composition, packaging and storage requirements, as well as labelling and warning requirements.
The OS 1661 standard for cosmetics made from distilled Omani frankincense water outlines requirements related to product purity and quality, permissible contaminant limits, packaging and storage conditions, and labelling requirements.
