Asian under-18 hockey championship gains momentum in Oman

MUSCAT : Hosted by the Sultanate of Oman, represented by the Oman Hockey Association, the championship will continue until July 25. The second day saw nine matches being played, including four in the men’s category and five in the women’s category.

In the men’s competition, Oman suffered a heavy 14-0 defeat against India. Iraq secured a 4-1 win over Saudi Arabia, while Bangladesh edged Oman 4-3 in a closely fought match. India continued their impressive form with a 7-4 victory over Pakistan in one of the key matches of the day.

In the women’s competition, Iran defeated Oman 11-0, while China and India shared points after a 2-2 draw. Iran also registered a 4-1 win over Pakistan. India produced one of the biggest victories of the day with a 14-0 win over Uzbekistan, before China closed the second round with a 5-1 victory over Kazakhstan.

The teams will take a break this evening as the mixed hockey festival, one of the accompanying events of the championship, takes place. Matches will resume on Thursday with nine more fixtures, including five men’s matches and four women’s matches.

The men’s competition features Oman, India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Iran, Saudi Arabia and Iraq, while the women’s competition includes Oman, India, Iran, China, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan and Pakistan.
