MUSCAT : The insurance scheme, introduced under the social protection system, provides coverage for insured employees during periods of sick leave and legally approved special leaves, including marriage leave, bereavement leave and leave to accompany a patient.
The Ministry said the initiative aims to ensure that workers receive the allowances due during approved leave periods while protecting their employment rights and reducing the impact of absence caused by health or personal circumstances.
According to the General Federation of Oman Workers, the Sick Leave and Extraordinary Leave Insurance branch applies to Omani employees in private sector establishments covered by the Labour Law, including those on temporary and training contracts, as well as retired workers.
The coverage also extends to expatriate workers employed in private sector establishments subject to Oman’s Labour Law provisions.
The scheme supports both employees and employers by providing insurance coverage during leave periods, compensating for applicable wages and contributions, and helping maintain stable contractual relationships and a sustainable work environment.
