Muscat: The participation comes as part of Oman’s wider push to strengthen its position as a leading destination for sports and adventure tourism, while attracting more visitors from key international markets.

The Ironman 70.3 race held in Swansea, one of the most prominent Ironman events in Europe, brought together 2,651 participants representing 216 sports clubs from different countries. Meanwhile, the Ironman 70.3 race in Vitoria-Gasteiz, Spain, witnessed the participation of 1,237 athletes from across the world, representing 146 international sports clubs. First-time participants accounted for 48.75 per cent of the total competitors.

As part of its participation, the Ministry set up a promotional corner for four days to showcase Oman’s diverse tourism destinations, adventure experiences, natural attractions, and the Ironman races that the Sultanate is set to host in 2026.

The Ministry said its presence at these international sporting events allows Oman to benefit from the global media and promotional momentum generated by Ironman races, while introducing international athletes and visitors to the country’s tourism potential.

The participation also aligns with the goals of Oman Vision 2040 by supporting tourism diversification, promoting sports and events tourism, increasing the competitiveness of the sector, and strengthening its contribution to the national economy.

According to the Ministry, such events help enhance global awareness of Oman as a destination that combines diverse natural landscapes, unique sporting experiences, modern tourism facilities, world-class resorts and hotels, and authentic Omani hospitality.

The Ministry added that attracting more international competitors can help boost hotel occupancy, support transport, restaurants, entertainment services, and other tourism-related activities.
