Oman’s electricity production rises 6.8% by end of May 2026

Total electricity production in the Sultanate of Oman increased by 6.8 percent by the end of May 2026, reaching 20,314.0 gigawatt-hours (GWh) compared with 19,027.4 GWh during the same period in 2025.

MUSCAT – Preliminary data issued by the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI) showed that net electricity production, including purchases by the Oman Power and Water Procurement Company and the Rural Areas Electricity Company, also rose by 6.8 percent to reach 19,717.5 GWh, compared with 18,457.6 GWh during the corresponding period last year.

Meanwhile, Oman’s total water production decreased by 3.4 percent to reach 201,255.4 thousand cubic metres by the end of May 2026.

Muscat Governorate recorded a 6.8 percent decline in water production, falling from 83,653.9 thousand cubic metres during the same period in 2025 to 78,000.6 thousand cubic metres by the end of May 2026.
In contrast, water production in Dhofar Governorate increased by 2.9 percent to reach 32,086.4 thousand cubic metres, compared with 31,183.9 thousand cubic metres during the same period in 2025.

Water production in the remaining governorates declined by 2.5 percent, reaching 91,168.5 thousand cubic metres, compared with 93,459.4 thousand cubic metres during the same period last year.
