MUSCAT : Oman’s Foreign Minister, His Excellency Sayyid Badr Al Busaidi, said the Sultanate is “grateful for India’s support” in efforts to safeguard freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz following talks with India’s External Affairs Minister, Dr. S. Jaishankar, in Muscat.

In a post on X after the meeting, Al Busaidi said the two sides held an “important discussion on intensive diplomacy” aimed at securing freedom of navigation through the strategic waterway, one of the world’s most important maritime trade routes.

“Pleased to welcome India’s External Affairs Minister H.E. Dr. S. Jaishankar to Muscat. Important discussion on intensive diplomacy to secure freedom of navigation in Strait of Hormuz, we are grateful for India’s support,” Al Busaidi wrote.

The Omani foreign minister also underlined the deep historical relationship between the two countries, noting that maritime links between Oman and India have connected their peoples for centuries and continue to serve as a strong foundation for bilateral cooperation.

The meeting comes amid continued regional attention on maritime security and the uninterrupted flow of international trade and energy supplies through the Strait of Hormuz, a vital corridor connecting Gulf producers to global markets.

Jaishankar arrived in Muscat on Wednesday for talks with senior Omani officials, with discussions expected to focus on bilateral relations, regional developments, trade and maritime cooperation.
