Washington: In a statement, the command said US forces targeted Iranian air defence systems, command and control networks, coastal radar sites, anti-ship missile capabilities, and more than 60 small boats belonging to the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps across several locations.

The strikes were launched after the US Central Command announced a series of attacks on Iranian targets in response to what it described as Iranian attacks on three commercial vessels passing through the region.

The Iranian Revolutionary Guard said its naval and aerospace forces later carried out a joint operation using missiles and drones, targeting 85 sites in the region in response to the American attacks.

In a related development, the Iranian Revolutionary Guard announced that it had shot down an American MQ-9 drone in the airspace of Bushehr province in southern Iran, according to Iranian state television.

Meanwhile, missile warning sirens sounded in the Kingdom of Bahrain following the American strikes on Iran. Kuwaiti air defences also intercepted a number of hostile drones and missiles, as regional security concerns continued to intensify.
