MUSCAT : Brigadier Eng. Ali bin Sulayem Al Falahi, Director-General of Traffic at the ROP, said official traffic statistics identify young drivers as the group most frequently involved in offences such as speeding, reckless driving, unsafe overtaking, tailgating, improper lane changes and failing to maintain a safe following distance.
The figures indicate that these violations remain among the leading contributors to serious and fatal road accidents across the Sultanate.
To curb the trend, the Directorate-General of Traffic has increased traffic patrols and strengthened road monitoring to detect dangerous driving practices and improve compliance with traffic laws.
Al Falahi said adherence to traffic regulations plays a critical role in reducing accidents by ensuring the safe movement of vehicles and pedestrians. He added that responsible driving extends beyond legal compliance to include respecting the rights of other road users, exercising patience and avoiding behaviour that could put lives at risk.
