MUSCAT : In a statement, the Authority said it is coordinating with relevant agencies to closely monitor the incident involving a vessel that ran aground near Qibliya Island, within the marine buffer zone surrounding the Hallaniyat Islands in the Wilayat of Shalim and the Hallaniyat Islands.

A technical team from the Directorate General of Environment in Dhofar Governorate visited the site on Wednesday, July 1, to inspect the vessel and collect water samples from the surrounding coastal areas.
According to the Authority, laboratory tests conducted on the samples have so far found no evidence of oil pollution.

The Environment Authority said its teams, working in cooperation with the National Emergency Management Committee, will continue to monitor the situation and implement approved contingency plans to respond promptly to any potential oil spill or environmental impact.

The Authority also urged the public to rely on official sources for updates on the incident and refrain from circulating rumours or unverified information to help ensure the dissemination of accurate and reliable information.
