Los Angeles: The Lakers confirmed James’ departure at the end of his contract, making the 41-year-old a free agent ahead of the new NBA season.
In a statement, the club thanked James for his immense contribution to the team, highlighting his leadership in guiding the Lakers to the 2020 NBA title. The franchise also praised him for the numerous records he achieved during his time in Los Angeles and wished him success in the next phase of his career.
James joined the Lakers in 2018 after two spells with the Cleveland Cavaliers and four years with the Miami Heat. During his eight-year stint in Los Angeles, he helped restore the Lakers to championship glory by leading the team to the title in 2020.
