Oman finish ninth at Asian Men’s Volleyball Championship after beating New Zealand

Oman’s national men’s volleyball team wrapped up its campaign at the 2026 Asian Men’s Volleyball Championship with a ninth-place finish after defeating New Zealand in straight sets in the ninth-place playoff.

AHMEDABAD : The national team secured a convincing 3-0 victory over New Zealand, winning the match 25-20, 25-21 and 25-18, to end the tournament on a positive note and claim ninth place among the 11 participating teams.

The win marked Oman’s second victory of the championship and reflected the determination and fighting spirit displayed by the players throughout the tournament.

Oman played a total of five matches during the competition. The team contested four matches in the group stage, registering one win and three defeats, before defeating New Zealand in the classification match to secure ninth place overall.

Oman competed in Group B, alongside Qatar, South Korea, Thailand and Indonesia, while Group A featured Kazakhstan, Chinese Taipei, Bahrain, Australia, New Zealand and hosts India.

The 2026 Asian Men’s Volleyball Championship got underway on June 20 in the Indian city of Ahmedabad and concludes on Sunday.
