Malayalam superstar Mammootty honoured with Padma Bhushan, receives India’s third-highest civilian award

Veteran Malayalam superstar Mammootty was conferred the Padma Bhushan, India's third-highest civilian honour, by President Droupadi Murmu at the second investiture ceremony held at Rashtrapati Bhavan on Monday.

New Delhi: Mammootty, one of Indian cinema’s most revered actors, has enjoyed an illustrious career spanning more than five decades, appearing in over 400 films across multiple languages. Widely admired for his versatility and powerful performances, he has left an indelible mark on Indian cinema while also actively supporting various social and charitable causes.

Reacting to the announcement of the honour earlier this year, Mammootty expressed immense happiness and gratitude. Speaking to Mathrubhumi News, the actor said, “Santosham, athi santhosham… there is nothing bigger than the honour from the country,” underscoring the emotional significance of the recognition.

The Padma Awards, announced annually on Republic Day, recognise exceptional contributions across diverse fields including art, literature, education, medicine, science, social work, sports, public affairs, trade and industry, and civil service. This year, the President approved 131 Padma Awards, comprising five Padma Vibhushan honours, 13 Padma Bhushan awards, and 113 Padma Shri recipients.
