Tunisia: The achievement highlights the growing success of the Omani Special Olympics movement in empowering people with intellectual disabilities and enhancing their participation in sports and leadership platforms across the region.

The Omani delegation excelled amid strong competition from athletes representing countries across the Middle East and North Africa. Oman’s beach volleyball team clinched the gold medal, while the triathlon team secured silver, raising the Sultanate’s flag on the podium and reaffirming its presence on the regional sporting stage.

Adding to the nation’s success, Mujahid Al-Sarhani was selected as an official spokesperson for the MENA region under the Special Olympics Young Leaders Program. The appointment reflects the effectiveness of Oman’s efforts to develop young leaders capable of representing the country at international forums.

Saif bin Mohammed Al-Rubaie, Chairman of the Omani Special Olympics, said the achievement is the result of continuous planning, institutional efforts and close cooperation between technical and administrative teams, as well as the families of the athletes.

He noted that the medals were the outcome of specialised training and preparation programmes designed to enhance athletes’ readiness and competitiveness.

“The gold and silver medals are a culmination of the tremendous efforts made during the past period and reflect the determination, perseverance and ability of our athletes to excel in various sporting competitions,” Al-Rubaie said.

He added that the organisation’s vision extends beyond sporting achievements to include character building, leadership development and strengthening self-confidence among athletes. He described Al-Sarhani’s selection as a regional spokesperson as another significant success for the organisation’s youth leadership initiatives.

Ali Al-Shahimi, head of the Omani delegation, said participation in the tournament provided valuable competitive exposure by enabling athletes to interact and compete with their counterparts from across the region. He stressed that the comprehensive preparation plan implemented before the event played a key role in achieving the positive results.
