Vancouver: The Pharaohs produced a spirited second-half comeback after New Zealand took an early lead through Finn Surman, whose powerful header in the 15th minute stunned the Egyptian side.
Egypt responded with determination and found the equaliser when Mostafa Zico rose to head home a cross from Mohamed Hany, bringing the North African side back into the contest.
With the match finely poised, captain Mohamed Salah stepped up when it mattered most. The Liverpool star combined brilliantly with Zico before curling a superb left-footed effort into the net in the 67th minute to put Egypt ahead.
Salah then turned provider, delivering a precise cross that substitute Trézéguet converted with a low header to seal a memorable 3-1 victory. The win lifts Egypt to four points at the top of Group G and leaves them needing only a draw against Iran in Seattle on Friday to secure a place in the Round of 32 for the first time.
