BERLIN – In a joint statement carried by the BBC, the four European countries called for intensified engagement with the United States, Iran and regional partners to build on the momentum generated by the agreement and work toward a lasting diplomatic settlement.
German Chancellor Friedrich Merz described the accord as an important diplomatic achievement and a positive step toward reducing international tensions and strengthening dialogue between Washington and Tehran.
Merz said the agreement could contribute to a more vibrant global economy while helping to create a safer and more stable Middle East. He stressed the importance of fully implementing the agreement to ensure its objectives are achieved.

He added that Germany would continue supporting diplomatic initiatives aimed at securing lasting peace, noting that Berlin remains in close contact with the United States, European allies and countries across the region.
United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres also welcomed the agreement reached between the United States and Iran, which includes a permanent ceasefire and the reopening of maritime navigation.
In a statement today, the Secretary-General’s spokesman, Stephane Dujarric, said that Guterres described the agreement as a “crucial step” towards peace in the Middle East.
The UN Secretary-General expressed his hope that “the parties will take advantage of this new momentum and redouble their efforts to reach a final solution to the conflict.”
US President Donald Trump had previously announced that an agreement had been reached to end the war with Iran.
In the same context, Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif confirmed that the agreement will be signed during an official ceremony next Friday in Switzerland.
He explained that under the agreement, mediators will facilitate a series of meetings this week, noting that these discussions will pave the way for technical talks and a formal signing ceremony.
