MADRID : In a statement released on Monday, Real Madrid confirmed that an agreement had been reached with Chelsea for the transfer of Cucurella, who will remain at the Santiago Bernabéu until June 30, 2032.

While neither club disclosed the financial details of the transfer, British media reports suggest the deal is worth £51.8 million (approximately $69.5 million).

The move comes as Real Madrid look to strengthen their squad following a disappointing 2025-26 campaign. The Spanish giants missed out on the La Liga title and saw their UEFA Champions League journey come to an end in the quarter-finals, prompting calls for reinforcements across the squad.

Cucurella’s arrival is expected to bolster Real Madrid’s defensive options, an area that club president Florentino Perez had pledged to improve during his successful campaign for another four-year term at the helm of the club.

The 27-year-old Spanish international joins Madrid after an impressive spell with Chelsea and is expected to play a key role in Mourinho’s plans as the Portuguese manager begins shaping his squad for the upcoming season.
