WASHINGTON – US President Donald Trump said an agreement with Iran could be signed today, according to a post on social media on Saturday. The expected signing date coincides with Trump’s 80th birthday.

Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also expressed optimism, saying the parties had agreed on the framework of a peace deal and that preparations were underway for an electronic signing, to be followed by technical-level discussions in the coming days.

However, Tehran has cast doubt on the proposed timeline. Iran has not confirmed that the agreement will be signed today, and officials have indicated that more time may be needed.

Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Ismail Baghaei cautioned against speculation regarding the timing of the signing. According to Iranian state media, Baghaei said the agreement would not be finalised immediately but could be completed “in the coming days.”

Trump wrote on Truth Social that maritime navigation in the region, a vital artery for global oil supplies that Iran had closed, “will be opened to everyone” immediately after the agreement is signed.
