WASHINGTON: US President Donald Trump said he has called off scheduled military strikes and bombings against Iran following what he described as significant progress in discussions with the Islamic Republic.
In a statement posted on his social media platform, Truth Social, Trump said the talks had been elevated to the highest levels of the Iranian leadership and had received the necessary approvals.
“Based on the fact that discussions with the Islamic Republic of Iran have been brought to the highest level of Iranian leadership and approved, I have, as President of the United States of America, cancelled the scheduled strikes and bombings against Iran this evening,” Trump wrote.
