WASHINGTON – U.S. President Donald Trump said on Tuesday that Iran had shot down a U.S. Apache attack helicopter while it was patrolling over the Strait of Hormuz, adding that the United States would respond to the incident.
In a post on social media, Trump said he had been informed by the U.S. military that the helicopter was brought down overnight.
“I have just been informed by our Great Military that last night the Iranians shot down one of our highly sophisticated Apache Helicopters while patrolling over the Strait of Hormuz. There were two pilots involved, both are safe and uninjured,” Trump wrote.

The president did not provide further details about the circumstances of the incident, including how the aircraft was downed or where the crew was recovered.
“Nevertheless, the United States must, of necessity, respond to this attack,” Trump added.
