MANILA : Authorities said 18 deaths were recorded in the Sarangani region due to landslides triggered by the quake, while 12 people were killed in General Santos City, three in South Cotabato province, and four in the Davao region.

A total of 487 people have been reported injured, as the earthquake caused widespread damage to infrastructure, including roads and bridges across affected areas.

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology said approximately 1,100 aftershocks have been recorded since the earthquake on Monday, with the strongest measuring 6.7 in magnitude.

In General Santos City, the international airport sustained damage to its control tower and arrival halls, forcing the suspension of operations, although runways remained intact.

The Philippine transport minister explained that authorities are working to facilitate the entry of military and humanitarian aircraft to transport supplies, with commercial flights expected to resume in about a week after damage assessment and maintenance work are completed.
