MUSCAT : H.E. Qais bin Mohammed Al Yousef, Chairman of the Public Authority for Special Economic Zones and Free Zones (OPAZ) and head of the Omani side of the Oman-Korea Joint Committee, held talks with H.E. Jung-Kwan Kim, South Korea’s Minister of Trade, Industry and Energy and head of the Korean side of the Joint Committee, to explore ways to deepen economic and investment cooperation between the two countries.
The meeting focused on strengthening the longstanding partnership between Oman and South Korea, with discussions covering a range of priority sectors including oil and gas, green hydrogen, artificial intelligence, vehicle and automotive manufacturing, and the development of small and medium-sized enterprises.
Both sides reviewed opportunities to expand collaboration and investment across these sectors as part of ongoing efforts to enhance bilateral economic relations and create new avenues for growth. They also underscored the importance of greater cooperation between the two countries’ special economic zones and free zones, with an emphasis on sharing expertise and best practices to support economic development objectives.

A key area of discussion was the facilitation of operational and logistics activities for South Korean companies operating in the Special Economic Zone at Duqm (SEZAD). The talks explored measures to improve the business environment and encourage additional Korean investments in the Sultanate.
During the meeting, the South Korean minister expressed appreciation for Oman’s continued cooperation, particularly in supporting supply chains between the two countries. The discussions also formed part of preparations for the next session of the Oman-Korea Joint Committee, which is expected to take place in the final quarter of this year.
The meeting reflects the growing momentum in Oman-South Korea economic relations and the shared commitment of both countries to advancing strategic investment partnerships in emerging and high-growth sectors.
