Muscat: The milestone comes following the ROP’s recent first-place achievement at the International Road Federation (IRF) Global Awards 2025.

The Royal Oman Police announced that the selection by the WHO reflects the Sultanate’s continued efforts to strengthen international institutional cooperation and enhance road safety standards at both regional and global levels.

According to the ROP, the recognition follows Oman’s success at the IRF Global Awards 2025, where it secured first place for its effective use of artificial intelligence and advanced data analytics in traffic management and accident reduction.

In 2026, the ROP was chosen to represent the Eastern Mediterranean Region in the WHO’s Global Technical Committee for Road Safety Legislation, becoming the only security and military entity participating in the international forum.

Officials stated that the achievement highlights the efficiency of Oman’s national road safety policies and the leadership role played by the Royal Oman Police in implementing evidence-based traffic legislation and international best practices.

The ROP noted that the adoption of smart technologies, including AI-powered monitoring systems and advanced analytics, has contributed significantly to improving traffic flow, reducing accidents, and strengthening public safety across the Sultanate.

The recognition also underlines Oman’s growing international standing in the field of road safety innovation and reflects the country’s broader commitment to adopting modern technologies and collaborative approaches to enhance transportation security and infrastructure development.
