MUSCAT — The Embassy of Nepal in Muscat organised a tourism promotion event on Thursday to mark Sagarmatha Day (Mt. Everest Day), celebrating Nepal’s mountaineering heritage while promoting the country’s tourism sector.
Held at Nepal House in Muscat, the event commemorated the first successful ascent of Mt. Everest on May 29, 1953, by Tenzing Norgay Sherpa and Sir Edmund Hillary. The programme brought together mountaineers, hikers, tourism sector representatives, media professionals, social media influencers and members of the Nepali community.
The event was attended by Nadira Al Harthy, the first Omani woman to summit Mt. Everest, who shared her climbing experience and reflections on Nepal’s Himalayan landscape. She also encouraged participants to pursue their ambitions with determination and visit Nepal to experience the Himalayas firsthand.
