MUSCAT : The case involved a consumer who purchased a used mobile phone advertised as being in ‘agency condition’ and free from any prior maintenance or repairs. The consumer later discovered defects in the device and referred it to the authorised dealer for inspection.
According to the authority, the examination revealed that the phone’s screen had been replaced and that its internal components had been tampered with, contrary to the claims made at the time of sale.
The court convicted the establishment and its representative of the misdemeanour of failing to comply with transparency and credibility requirements in product promotion. It imposed a fine of RO 500 on each party and referred the related civil claim to the competent judicial circuit.
