MUSCAT — The authority said the procedure helps improve passenger safety by allowing a clear view outside the aircraft, enabling the early detection of any external emergency situations such as smoke or fire.
It added that open window shades also facilitate evacuation procedures by allowing passengers’ eyes to adjust to outside lighting conditions, which can speed up response times in the event of an emergency landing or evacuation.
In addition, the measure assists rescue teams by improving visibility into the aircraft cabin from outside if intervention is required on the ground.
The authority also noted that takeoff and landing are considered the most safety-sensitive phases of any flight.
