WASHINGTON – Following the proposal, Trump stated that he had instructed the US military not to proceed with the planned strike on Iran. However, he added that the military had been ordered to remain prepared for a full-scale attack at any moment if an acceptable agreement is not reached.
The US president had previously expressed optimism that an agreement to end the conflict could be achieved. At the same time, he warned that Washington could launch severe strikes against Iran if negotiations failed.
Trump’s announcement came after Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmail Baghaei confirmed that Tehran’s views had been “conveyed to the American side via Pakistan,” although he did not disclose further details.
A Pakistani source also confirmed that Islamabad had delivered the latest proposal to Washington. The source added that Pakistan has been facilitating communication between the two sides since hosting the only round of peace talks in April.
Meanwhile, Tasnim News Agency quoted the unified command of the Iranian armed forces as saying that the military remains fully prepared in the event that any American attack resumes.
