MUSCAT : The municipality said ongoing efforts are being made to regulate the advertising and signage sector in accordance with approved laws and standards aimed at maintaining the aesthetic identity of Muscat while ensuring public safety.

It pointed out that the installation of commercial advertisements requires adherence to approved locations and regulations, noting that signs and billboards must not obstruct pedestrian movement, interfere with vehicular traffic, or compromise visibility on roads.

The municipality also stressed that advertising content must align with public taste and remain free of linguistic and translation errors, warning against the spread of random or unlicensed advertisements that contribute to visual distortion and pose potential safety risks.

According to the regulations, rooftop signs are only permitted on buildings exceeding 20 metres in height, while window stickers and promotional decals must not cover more than 50npercent of the area.

It further highlighted several common violations, including installing signs without permits, exceeding approved dimensions, and neglecting maintenance requirements, which can create hazards for the public.

Muscat Municipality warned that random advertising is not merely a regulatory violation but also a factor affecting the city’s visual harmony and overall urban environment.
