World Health Organization: Hantavirus cluster linked to cruise ship travel

The World Health Organization has announced that the hantavirus strain identified among cases linked to the outbreak aboard the cruise ship MV Hondius is the Andean strain, which can be transmitted between humans.

GENEVA – According to the organization, the total number of cases reported as of Wednesday stood at 11, including three deaths. Laboratory tests confirmed eight cases, while two were classified as probable and one remained inconclusive in the United States.
The WHO said all infections were recorded onboard the vessel and noted that the current mortality rate is approximately 27 percent.
