MUSCAT : The competition aims to stimulate national cadres toward media creativity and innovation, while raising professional quality standards within media institutions.
The competition also seeks to highlight national media talents and recognize their achievements, foster a spirit of positive competition among media institutions and individuals, support digital media and electronic content creation, and contribute to the documentation of winning works.
The competition encompasses a range of main fields, including Print Journalism, Radio and Television, and Digital Media. It targets three primary categories, namely media institutions; individuals (practitioners and media enthusiasts); and students majoring in media studies at academic institutions.
The award is granted exclusively to the first-place winner in each branch of the competition’s fields, with each prize valued at RO 1,500.
The competition is distributed across four main areas. In Print Journalism, categories include the editorial article, journalistic interview, investigative report, and press photography.
In Radio, the competition includes talk programs, family programs, radio dramas, and cultural programs.
Television categories comprise talk programs, sports programs, variety shows, documentary programs and films, children’s programs, and governorate reports.
Digital Media covers electronic broadcast channel programs (for institutions), podcasts (for institutions), digital media campaigns (for institutions), electronic newspapers (for institutions), news accounts (for individuals), social media content creators (for individuals), as well as electronic content produced by media students in higher education institutions.
The competition is held biennially for several reasons, including allowing time for the submission of distinguished works, creating competitive participation options, and ensuring adequate preparation and readiness.
The Media Excellence Competition, which held its first edition in 2004, is a national initiative aimed at enhancing media creativity and solidifying the role of media as an active partner in achieving the targets of Oman Vision 2040.
