US decides to withdraw 5,000 troops from its forces in Germany, NATO balance in focus

The United States has announced plans to withdraw 5,000 troops from Germany, a move expected to be completed within the next six to 12 months.

Washington: The US Department of Defense confirmed that the withdrawal will involve forces currently stationed in Germany as part of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization framework.

Pentagon chief spokesman Sean Parnell stated that the drawdown process will be gradual, with completion expected within a six- to twelve-month timeframe.

Responding to the development, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz emphasized the continued importance of the transatlantic partnership between Germany and the United States. He noted that Germany remains committed to contributing to a strong and united NATO alliance alongside its allies.

Merz highlighted that the German military plays a vital and indispensable role within NATO, adding that the alliance continues to serve mutual interests under a deep-rooted transatlantic relationship.
