Oman FM meets Vatican envoy, underscores interfaith dialogue and peace efforts

MUSCAT : Oman’s Foreign Minister His Excellency Sayyid Badr bin Hamad Albusaidi met Archbishop Dr. Nicolas Henry Thevenin, the Vatican’s ambassador to the Sultanate, in Muscat on Thursday, discussing bilateral ties and efforts to promote dialogue between religions and cultures.

The two sides reviewed relations between Oman and the Vatican and explored ways to strengthen mutual understanding based on respect and tolerance, the foreign ministry said.

Sayyid Badr praised statements by Pope Leo XIV calling for justice, peace, an end to wars and the rejection of violence, stressing the importance of dialogue and peaceful solutions in reinforcing global stability.

The Vatican envoy expressed appreciation for Oman’s balanced and peace-oriented foreign policy, highlighting the Sultanate’s role in supporting dialogue, containing crises and mitigating their impact, as well as its humanitarian approach to global challenges.

The meeting was attended by Munther bin Mahfoudh Al Mandhari, head of the Europe Department at the foreign ministry, along with other officials from both sides.
