MUSCAT – The company has carried out a comprehensive network rehabilitation programme covering approximately 1,200 kilometres, alongside the replacement of more than 45,000 household connections, reflecting the scale of its infrastructure upgrade efforts.
Engineer Abdullah bin Mohammed Al Nuaimi, Chief Executive Officer of Operations and Maintenance at Nama Water Services, said these projects form a key pillar in strengthening the efficiency of the water system. He noted that the company is adopting an integrated approach combining infrastructure development with modern technologies, focusing on sustainable expansion of water and wastewater networks and proactive maintenance.
He told Oman News Agency that the company is committed to enhancing water security through a range of projects aimed at connecting new networks and rehabilitating existing systems, reducing water losses, and improving service reliability. These efforts, he added, directly contribute to improving quality of life and supporting urban and economic growth.
Al Nuaimi said recent works covered several governorates, including Muscat with 300 kilometres of rehabilitated networks, North Al Batinah (202 kilometres), South Al Batinah (194 kilometres), Al Dakhiliyah (152 kilometres), South Al Sharqiyah (over 136 kilometres), Al Dhahirah (95 kilometres), Al Buraimi (73 kilometres), Musandam (34 kilometres), and North Al Sharqiyah (more than 6 kilometres).
He added that the company has also implemented a parallel programme to replace household connections linking customer meters to main distribution networks, improving efficiency, reducing losses, and enhancing service quality.
The projects also include upgrading metering systems through the installation of more accurate digital meters integrated with the company’s digital platforms, improving water resource management and operational performance.
Al Nuaimi stressed that these initiatives go beyond infrastructure upgrades, delivering broader developmental benefits such as improved service quality, reduced environmental impact, enhanced infrastructure readiness, and increased attractiveness of residential areas.
He said the company is implementing these projects through carefully planned phases based on data analysis and prioritisation, ensuring maximum impact in improving operational efficiency and sustaining water resources, in line with international best practices.
