MUSCAT – The Omani duo, Mazen bin Sulaiman Al Hashemi and Hood bin Rashid Al Jalbubi, secured the win with set scores of 21–17 and 21–14, delivering a strong performance that ensured their progression and reinforced their competitive presence in the tournament.
Elsewhere in the round, results saw Iran defeat Syria (2–0), Japan beat Bangladesh (2–0), Malaysia overcome South Korea (2–0), Sri Lanka defeat Bhutan (2–0), China beat Qatar (2–0), and Saudi Arabia defeat Macau (2–0). Qatar later defeated Iran (2–0), while Uzbekistan beat the Maldives (2–0), Kazakhstan overcame Mongolia (2–0), Indonesia defeated Saudi Arabia (2–0), Timor-Leste beat Palestine (2–0), Laos defeated the Maldives (2–0), and Thailand beat Lebanon (2–0).

In athletics, Oman’s Salem bin Saleh Al Yaarubi finished fourth in the long jump with a distance of 7.27 metres, narrowly missing the bronze medal. Vietnam’s Pham Van won gold with 7.44 metres, followed by China’s Tao Peijie (7.41m), while Sri Lanka’s Miranda Sampath claimed bronze with 7.37 metres.

In the 60-metre sprint, Rashid bin Huwaishil Al Asmi placed seventh with a time of 6.90 seconds. Thailand’s Puripol Boonson won gold in 6.62 seconds, followed by China’s Huang Zhaoyu (6.67s) and Liu Yang (6.74s) in third.

Oman’s participation continues on Sunday with the final day of athletics competitions, where Alia bint Faiq Al Mughairi will compete in the long jump final, alongside the national relay team.
The athletics squad is supervised by Mohammed bin Abdullah Al Houti (sprints coach) and Emad Siraj (jumps coach), with administrative duties handled by Abdullah bin Mohammed Al Jabri. The team includes Rashid bin Huwaishil Al Asmi, Fatik bin Adnan Beit Qaisan, Mohammed bin Obaid Al Saadi, Nimir bin Mohammed Al Busaidi, Salem bin Saleh Al Yaarubi, Azza bint Sultan Al Yaarubi, and Alia bint Faiq Al Mughairi.
