MUSCAT — Oman’s Ministry of Energy and Minerals has denied reports published by a local newspaper claiming that PetroTel Energy had made oil or gas discoveries in the Sultanate, saying the information was inaccurate and not based on any official source.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, the ministry said the claims regarding alleged petroleum or gas discoveries by PetroTel Energy in Oman were “incorrect and unsupported by any approved official data.”
The ministry further clarified that the concession licence previously granted to the company had already expired without any discoveries being made.

It added that PetroTel Energy is currently in the process of closing its operations in the Sultanate.
“The Ministry of Energy and Minerals denies the information published and circulated by a local newspaper regarding the alleged oil and gas discoveries by PetroTel Energy in the Sultanate of Oman, stating that such claims are not based on any official source,” the statement said.
The ministry said the clarification was issued to address misinformation and reaffirm that no commercial or confirmed discoveries had been recorded under the company’s concession.
