MUSCAT : The forum, underscoring the prospects for accepting students with hearing disabilities in higher education institutions, coincides with Arab Deaf Week and reflects efforts to strengthen inclusive education and promote equal opportunities within higher education institutions.
The forum aims to raise awareness within the university and wider community about the right of students with hearing disabilities to access higher education. It will bring together policymakers, academics, specialists, civil society organisations, and students to discuss admission policies, challenges facing accessibility in universities, and international best practices in inclusive education.
It will also highlight the role of arts education in empowerment and inclusion, alongside presentations of field experiences and success stories of students with hearing disabilities, showcasing their academic and social integration.
The programme includes scientific papers, training workshops, and case study presentations. Participants will include faculty members, administrators, special education and arts education specialists, civil society representatives, parents, relevant authorities, and media professionals.
Organisers said the forum underscores the importance of institutional partnerships between universities and civil society organisations in improving admission policies, enhancing support services, and expanding access to sign language interpretation, contributing to a more inclusive university environment.
