Beirut: Speaking on the evolving situation, Aoun emphasised that direct talks with Israel remain “delicate and pivotal,” urging all stakeholders in Lebanon to act with a shared sense of responsibility during this critical phase.
He noted that the ceasefire is not just a pause in hostilities, but a strategic step towards broader diplomatic progress. According to Aoun, Lebanon’s immediate priorities include consolidating the ceasefire, ensuring the withdrawal of Israeli forces from southern territories, facilitating the return of captives, and addressing unresolved border disputes.
Highlighting the role of the military, Aoun stated that the Lebanese Army will take on a central responsibility following any Israeli withdrawal. This includes deploying forces up to the internationally recognised southern border while working to eliminate all armed presence outside of state control.

He further reassured residents of southern Lebanon that, upon their return to their towns and villages, security will be maintained exclusively by the Lebanese Army and legitimate state agencies, marking a move aimed at restoring stability and public confidence in the region.
