DHAKA — The Bangladesh government has appointed former national captain Tamim Iqbal as president of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) after dissolving its board of directors over alleged irregularities in last year’s elections.
The move follows recommendations from a five-member investigation committee that reviewed complaints surrounding the October polls. Authorities said the findings pointed to significant weaknesses in the election process, prompting the National Sports Council (NSC) to disband the existing board led by Aminul Islam.
Tamim, 37, becomes the youngest president in BCB history and will head an 11-member ad hoc committee tasked with running the board’s affairs for the next three months. The committee includes former Bangladesh captain Minhajul Abedin and ex-international cricketer and commentator Athar Ali Khan, along with several other officials.
