MUSCAT – The Authority explained that low-pressure systems are characterised by rising air and unstable atmospheric conditions. In these systems, air converges toward the centre and rises upward, leading to cloud formation and an increased likelihood of precipitation. Winds are often fresh, and atmospheric pressure at the centre is lower than in surrounding areas.
In contrast, high-pressure systems produce markedly different conditions. Air descends from higher altitudes and diverges outward from the centre, creating a stable atmosphere. These systems are typically associated with clear skies, minimal cloud cover, and little to no chance of precipitation. The atmospheric pressure at the centre of a high-pressure system is higher than in nearby regions.
