MUSCAT : The 550 honourees, representing 52 different sports institutions and authorities, have achieved more than 300 medals of various colours after participating in 69 global, continental, international, regional, and Arab competitions.
The honouring ceremony will be held under the auspices of His Excellency Sheikh Al Fadhl Mohammed Al Harthy, Secretary General of the Council of Ministers.
The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth has consistently honoured achieving athletes every year to motivate and recognize the efforts they have exerted. This success is the culmination of the combined efforts of technical and administrative staff and players, following action plans, programs, and training camps that resulted in winning these medals, comprising 117 gold, 91 silver, and 97 bronze medals.
Among the most prominent national teams honoured in this ceremony is the beach handball team, which won the Asian Championship, and the hockey team, winner of the Asian Cup. The ceremony also recognizes the shooting team, which secured a silver medal at the Asian Cup, and the powerlifting team players, who won two bronze medals at the Asian Championship. Furthermore, the bodybuilding team is being honoured for winning three silver and four bronze medals at the World Bodybuilding Championship along with a number of Asian medals, in addition to the national billiards team, which won a gold medal at the World Billiards Qualifiers.
The honouring further includes the national taekwondo team, which won a silver medal at the World Junior Taekwondo Championships, and the national maritime sports team, which secured a gold medal at the World Team Racing Championship in sailing. Additionally, the diving team is recognized for winning a silver medal at the World Underwater Activities Championship, alongside the Special Olympics national team, which claimed one gold, one silver, and five bronze medals at the Special Olympics World Winter Games.
