MUSCAT : A Pakistani citizen who risked his life to rescue two Indian nationals from floodwaters in Oman has been honoured by the Embassy of Pakistan in Muscat and senior community leaders, in recognition of his bravery during recent severe weather.

Shahzad Khan, 25, a worker from Peshawar currently based in Barka, received the honour from Dr. Syed Naveed Safdar Bokhari in the presence of Nadeem Azeemi, Kashif Zaeem, Shaandar Bukhari, and Sheikh Syed Fayyaz Ali Shah.

Khan came into the spotlight after a video of his rescue went viral on social media, drawing widespread praise across communities.

The incident occurred on Sunday afternoon as heavy rainfall triggered by a low-pressure system caused wadis to overflow across several parts of the country. In Barka, rising waters surrounded a vehicle carrying two Indian nationals, prompting concern among onlookers.

Witnesses said hundreds had gathered near the swollen wadi, many filming the situation, when Khan stepped forward. Without hesitation, he climbed onto the partially submerged vehicle and attempted to break its windows.

After an initial attempt failed, Khan used stones to shatter the glass and successfully pulled both occupants to safety, preventing what could have been a fatal outcome.

Authorities have reported at least 10 deaths linked to the recent weather conditions, while dozens have been rescued as emergency teams continue operations across affected areas.

Officials and community leaders praised Khan’s courage, describing his actions as a powerful example of humanity and solidarity across nationalities during a time of crisis.
