MUSCAT : Iran has appointed Mohammad Baqer Zolqadr as the new secretary of its Supreme National Security Council (SNSC), state media reported, replacing senior official Ali Larijani in a key leadership reshuffle during a period of heightened regional tensions.
The SNSC is Iran’s highest decision-making body on national security, overseeing defence, intelligence coordination, and major foreign policy matters, including nuclear strategy.
Zolqadr is a long-time figure within Iran’s security establishment and is widely known for his association with the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC). He has held several senior roles over the years, particularly in areas linked to internal security, law enforcement, and strategic planning.
